The DRAFT THREAD 2009
#1
Ok its that time of year and footy is back .
So its time to keep up to date with prospective draft picks of the future.

Richmond have 2 potential fs selections Josh Free nth ballarat and Will Pickering calder cannons .
Josh Free is my pick of the 2,this year should see him playing more a midfield role ,very good defensive skills, and very focused mentally .
Might be a very good bp player at afl level,or could even turn out to be a midfielder.
Will pickering a lot like his father michael, same sort of build and height.
He would of learned abit last season playing a few games at the cannons,
but really needs to work harder to get himself more involved in a game, has quite good speed and his skills are good, might make a fp or hf.

Another player with a Richmond connection is Nathan Vardy from the Gippsland power ,lm not quite sure if its his brother or cousin.
Nathan is 198cm is used as a ruckman or kp,would most likely be a kp at afl level he"s quite a good player.

A few others to look out for are john butcher 197cm from Gippsland, already being touted as a top 5 pick and is a key forward .
Another from Gippsland is toby stevens 186cm midfielder very good prospect.
Ben griffiths from the eastern ranges 199cm kp/ruck trained with the tigers last year is a member of the ais academy ,good prospect lm sure the tigers will be following his progress.
Luke mitchell from the cannons ,exciting prospect, very talented player.

Will add a few more as the season goes.

Re: The juniors/2009

Thanks colossus.

Love these threads. This is where the interested amateurs like myself begin to learn the names of the upcoming draftees.

Hopefully most of the top juniors will be out of our reach this year due to the fact that our first pick will be in the teens.

Of course we may do some clever trading.

That's what I was thinking Gracie!

I think we have to take the emotion & fairytale factor out when we assess the potential father - sons.

Free, Pickering et al may have potential - that's great. But we want the best footballers possible coming in to our club, every year.

Frankly I don't care who their dads played for.

And don't forget that if they are any good we could be forced to use our first round draft pick on one of them anyway

Unless we can trade our way into another first round selection - or even early second round Big Grin

Butcher comes from my home town. Boy that kid is an absolute monster. I guess it's hard not to dominate at junior level when you are his size.

You said he would go top 5 is that right??

If so we have no chance with our pick 13 - 16 Big Grin

unless we trade

I wish l could share your optimism Smile
There needs too be a huge improvement from alot of players.

Im still dirty we never took roughead with our 2nd round pick last year.
But from this early stage, there looks like there could be a few promising talls around too snag at the end of the year.

Also if any of our interstate supporters know any juniors too watch out for.
Because from what lve been told ,the cupboard is a little bit empty interstate this year .
