VFL 2014 Round 1: Rich v Footscray
#31
As I understand it the idea of a stand-alone Tiger VFL team is to get games into our young players so that they will be able to step up to the Seniors when all those players up there whose heads have been called for are consigned to the Seconds.

n'est-ce pas?

So much expectation...so much richmondite....

Please dont take this the wrong way. Its more of a general observation about how people are feeling at the moment and not directed at you, but at the same time trying to answer the question about " a Highlight."

I love seeing my team win.

I dont expect it.

I enjoy going to watch a footy game. I love a quite beer at the game with a mate, family or decent company.

Coming from a small country town, we played sport and socialised afterwards. Loads more fun when you win for sure. When one of the towns teams played finals there was a great buzz around the place. After a lost final glum was absorbed by the community. We didnt blame the club, the coach or even the guys who where spuds. Losing a game is just what happens. Floggings even occur.

Thats the nature of sport.

Now I know that AFL is a corporate bizz.

But Richmond was my team when Football was sport. My expectation is to go out on the weekend and watch the team I love play the sport I love. I expect to love it when we win, I expect to hurt when we lose. I expect that is what sport is about.

I have a mate who is a collingwood supporter, I went out with him after they won the 1990 GF. It was worth the wait. The joy those guys experienced. Beyond words.

I have another mate who is a saints supporter. He still feels the pain from 2010. But he still goes to the footy, he still loves his club. He dosnt expect to see another Flag in his lifetime. Especially with the expansion sides on the horizon.

That my friend is football.

Its early days for the VFL side. The benefits from having a VFL team will not be wins but how we bring players into the seniors. Knowing their roles the game plan etc.

If our ruck stocks are tested in the seniors, the VFL side pays a bigger price. Elton rucked most of the day. Maric and Hampson play seniors and they have the big O and maybe griff or vickers.

But in the end its another couple of hours of footy. When it kills that empty time before the main game, that is what saturdays are for.

Wow.

At least I got to drink beer from a can. Ah just like the good old days!

I went to this game as well, and left half way through the 3rd quarter ,their where some reasonable games by a couple, but no where near afl level,l would hate us to get an injury or two in the midfield, their is not a lot coming up.

About when I left col.

An odd moment of spark from an individual, but it was not pretty thats for sure. Its hard to tell when you are gettin such a pantsing who can do what. A decent ruck and backman will drop back a some stage. I look forward to seeing how they go next time.

Coach stated Stephenson and Gordon playing Seniors affected them but that Elton rucked well.

Also Arnott was good.

Miles seems to be going ok as he was quoted as having "28 or 29 touches".

Coburg coming up next, at Coburg, with Batchelor suspended for 1 week and Darrou challenging a striking charge.

Did Foley do anything?

He wasn't mentioned and I didn't see him in the video of the interview.

One thing I did pick up was that Arnot gave away 4 frees "but we are working on that", said Clarke.

Not funny if we lose him for several weeks.
