As mentioned in a previous post, Y & B's 2012 Player Sponsorship will go ahead as has happened in previous years. I haven't kicked it off prior to this as the method of collecting payments doesn't migrate from the current software to the new one. I've tested the new software and it'll allow automatic collection of PayPal and Credit Card payments via the website which will update the running total for each player.

The feature this year is that there is no set price per share - you can contribute any amount you wish (in $10 increments via PayPal/Credit Card).

Player Sponsorship provides you with the opportunity to enhance your current membership and is the perfect addition for the passionate Richmond supporter, who wants to establish an association with their favourite player.

In 2012, the benefits of Player Sponsorhip are:
    • One invitation to the player sponsor dinner with a tour of the change rooms by your sponsored player
    • Your name (yellowandblack.com.au) on your sponsored player’s locker for season 2012
    • Signed guernsey by your sponsored player
    • Signed photo with your sponsored player
    • $50 voucher to Tigerland Superstore
    • Subscription to the Club’s official electronic newsletters
    • Subscription to The Fighting Tiger – the Club’s official magazine
    • Recognition on the Player Sponsorship page of the website – richmondfc.com.au
    INVESTMENT
    $1,250 per sponsored player

If you don't want to use PayPal or your Credit Card (via PayPal) to make your donation towards the Y & B Player Sponsorship, you may make your payment in 2 other ways:

    BANK TRANSFER
    Bank: Commonwealth Bank
Account Name: Yellow and Black Website
    BSB: 063-000
    Account Number: 11648851

    -- or --

    CHEQUE OR MONEY ORDER

Make the cheque or money order payable to "Yellow and Black Website" and mail it to:

    PO Box 824,
    Williamstown, VIC. 3016

When we get close to reaching the purchase price of the first player, I'll open a poll to determine who we should sponsor.

    Bump.

I like the fact you can pay whatever you are comfortable with. Even $10 from a number of people would make a difference.

    A suggestion?

As we would be sponsoring the player as a collective group, based on the spirit of raising funds for the RFC, could we raffle or sell off most of the benefits with the funds going back into the club? Or simply raffle off the benefits to those who contribute, based on the size of the donation? Eg, each $10 earns you one raffle ticket?

I can't seem to figure out how to contribute and sponsor?

The funds of the sponsorship go the club, i think asking people to donate again for a raffle may be a stretch. There are more items associated this time though as I don't seem to recall there being a signed jumper previously. In regards to the dinner, all people who donate are contacted via email to say if they are available to attend and if so they go into the draw. The other benefits could also be raffled off between those who contribute.

You're right, Lisa, they've never had the signed jumper before, or the $50 voucher.

I've installed the "Donations Manager" so you can now contribute towards the sponsorship via PayPal (PayPal credit or your Credit Card). Please refer to the first post for direct credit and cheque payment details.

There hasn't been a signed jumper for this class of Player Sponsorship in the past. There have been gift vouchers for the Tiger Den (as it was known previously) which I used as payment to members for providing services to the site.

I like the idea of having a draw for the jumper and vouchers this year. As Lisa mentioned in an earlier post, I don't think selling tickets to enter the draw is fair. I'm much happier with the idea of giving each contributor 1 entry in the draw for each $10 contributed.

We then have an issue if we say, sponsor 3 players. We then have 3 jumpers and 3 $50 vouchers. If we were to conduct 3 draws (each for 1 jumper and 1 voucher), I'd have to record who contributed towards which player (i.e. Lisa contributed $30 to player 1, and $10 to player 3). That would probably drive me to drink (maybe not a bad thing :)). An easier way to do it would be that all player sponsor members gain entry to the draw with the first drawn winning the 1st player's jumper, the 2nd drawn wins the 2nd player's jumper, the 3rd drawn wins the 3rd player's jumper with the 4th, 5th, and 6th drawn winning a $50 voucher each.

The signed photo will once again be given to the people who have their photo taken with the player at the Sponsor night. As Lisa also mentioned, I e-mail all contributors to the sponsorships to find who is available to attend the Sponsor night. If more people are able to attend than places available, I draw the attendees from a hat. I have my own player sponsorship (Ben Griffiths again this year) through my membership package so I'll be in attendance at the Sponsor night in my own right. That reminds me - I still have some photos available from previous years. Sorry about being slow to distribute them. If you're owed a photo, PM me your mailing address and I'll send them out next week.

    How does this sound?

Just made a small donation Ned as you know I sponsor a player myself but thought it was important to help as I enjoy the site so much. Wish it was more.

It sounds good. Fair and appropriate. There could end up being some excited winners of the jumpers, as "37Green" was when he attended the "Fighting Tiger Fund" Gala night after winning that draw.

First I'll pay all my school fees, then my contribution will be paid.
I just had to get a new fridge too.

Sounds like a plan Ned. I have been lucky to attend the Players Sponsors dinner on behalf of the site and I can attest to it being a fantastic night and actually a real highlight in my life and all I had to do was donate a little money to the club I love.

I won't be contributing on principle as I have never seen any justification for a player earning $200k a season to need a 'sponsor'.

It's a bit like a multi million dollar business like the AFL being sponsored by Toyota.

But, I do respect anyone who stumps up their hard earned so well done to all!

You're not really sponsoring the player; you're having an association with a player, with some fringe benefits, and in return the club increases it's revenue. The player gets nothing himself, but must give something to the sponsors (eg his time, cordiality, etc).
