The Official TRENT COTCHIN Thread
The Kid needs his own thread.
10 games into his career and I realised I'm already starting to forget some of the special things he's done. This thread is to be an opus of all things Cotchin, so people in one billion years time can experience something of what it was like to watch the Little Master.
I encourage you to add snippets of play, opinion, quotes, stories, video, pictures, statistics, love letters, poetry, whatever you like, as long as it is about Junior.
Now, I'd like to quote one of the saddest things I have ever heard.
"There are some players that when they get the ball, you immediately take your eyes off them, because you know they are going to use the ball well. Trent Cotchin is one of those players" - Robert Walls, 26/07/2008
Personally, Robert, Junior is one of those players that when he gets the ball, I never take my eyes off him, I can't take my eyes off him, it's like they are physically locked on him by some sort of spell, my heartbeat rises, and the corners of my mouth start to twitch upwards. Look away for a second Robert and you'll miss all the magic! To witness some of the things The Kid does, it's like silk softly trickling across your brain. You poor, poor man.
And thus we get back to the very point of bringing this official thread into existence:
Round 17, 2008 vs Brisbane Lions:
2nd Qtr
Cotchin receives a handpass under pressure on the broadcast side of the ground. Jed Adcock has him closely in check on one side, with the boundary line fencing him in on the other. Adcock has the positional advantage, and a tackle or out-of-bounds are the high percentage outcomes of the contest. Cotchin props and throws a half-step, then accelerates in one movement. Adcock, inches away, mistimes his tackle and lands clutching air on the sidelines. Cotchin has already run away and hits Deledio lace out with a kick up the wing. Footwork. Boner. 3-time premiership Captain and Brownlow medallist Michael Voss in the commentary wets his pants.
4th Qtr
In almost the same position as the above play, Cotchin receives a terrible handpass from Joel Bowden who has worked himself into a spot of bother. Surrounded by two Lions players, the ball lands at his feet. I can't with any real sureness describe what happened next, because it happened in some sort of surreal time bubble. Cotchin gathered, the pack closed in, his feet did something, his hips did something, players went all which way but his way, and he gracefully cantered out the other side kicking accurately into the corridor no longer under any pressure whatsoever. WTF? WTF indeed. Michaelangelo never created anything so beautiful.
The Kid only touched it 11 times in that game, so you can see why I'm not big on stats (someone should post his current averages though, just for the record, thanks) and you can see why we need to preserve his artwork for all future generations to enjoy. Holy. Genius. Superfreak. Cotchin.

Re: The Official TRENT COTCHIN Thread
The kid is blessed with so much natural talent it is ridiculous.
I liked the 'don't argue that he put on a Port player. He then proceeded to deliver it to Jack's chest'
He is awesome, and we should all look forward to watching him for many years to come.
'Suffer Carlton' in years to come, it will not be the Franklin/Tambling debate, it will be the Kruezer/Cotchin debate.
We are on a winner here!

Re: The Official TRENT COTCHIN Thread
What can I add to Hully's benediction?
Not much at the moment as the old brainbox requires x times cups of tea to creak into action.
In my [mumble] years of watching the Tiges, I cannot recall a player who has shown so many promises of greatness. I have always said that about Deuf - and I don't recant any of my many ravings about that Tasmanian champion - but this little guy is the next step to wonderment from Gablett, Kerr, Ju$$. Ok, ok, he WILL be, just give him time.
I can't think of any of the other things he has done so far. I still shake my head in disbelief at that passage of play described by Hully, and didn't the cynical seen-it-all-before commentators wax lyrical at that one? Well, they would have if they'd possessed the words to give proper credit to Junior.
Oh, one small point which I don't think has been covered in last week's match:
Cotch came off the ground at one point, looking distressed and in pain. Alarm bells sounded in my head, but he was back on again doing magical things and I forgot the incident. Did anyone see or hear what might have happened? Was he just winded?

Sorry hully, but I can't add to your eloquent descriptions, as I am even more deeply afflicted than you.
My mind goes blank & next thing I know the letters C H A M P I O N go through my head, one at a time, like the spinning symbols in a poker machine.
Then comes the realisation that what I had seen was performed by someone in a Richmond jumper & I have to stop myself from engaging in "Voss incontinence".

Re: The Official TRENT COTCHIN Thread
Round 14 vs Carlton.
Cotchin beats Marc Murphy to the ball on the Left flank at the Punt Road end, then, just as Murphy has him in his grasp, he swivels, and with a Harvey-esque shake of the hips, frees himself and calmly delivers to Polo 35 metres out on a slight angle.

Re: The Official TRENT COTCHIN Thread
Yup, BIG fan of Cotchin here.
The most exciting prospect at Tigerland that I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing for some time.
Get a decent pre-season on the lad, another 6-months of gym, fitness, skill and team training and look out! Our midfield is shaping up to be a future strength of the club; Foley, Daledio and of course Cotchin.

It was his hand Hully. Pretty sure that it was trodden on in a scrummage on the ground. He sure was wincing in pain tho.

Re: The Official TRENT COTCHIN Thread
are we in danger of Luke Balling Cotchin every week.
ever since the WCE game i've noticed he has become a target.
its clearly obvious in the last month that opposition sides are looking to nullify his impact on the game.
thats the danger in being so good at such a young age i guess but still his body is not supposed to take big hits from fully grown men at this stage of his physical developement.
yep, hes a tough lad, a superstar in the making but i can almost garuantee if this over-exposure to stoppages isnt looked at his young body will eventually start showing signs of distress 2-3 years down the track.
Marc Murphy is another case where i feel his developement was stifled by over exposure to the heat of battle while his body was just way too young.
Give Cotch liberal time in the engine room for now but mainly play him on a wing where his pinoint accuracy can be fully ultilised spotting up forward targets, lace out.
just a thought anyway.

Yes! Nice work Cardy, I'd forgotten that one already. Made Murph look very ordinary. See this is what I'm talking about. If we don't pocket these gems now, they'll be lost. Keep em coming.
One thing that had me laughing with joy for some lovestruck reason, during the Lions game, after mesmerising us on the wing, he stood bent with his hands on his knees, catching a breath, and performed a little twist of the shoulders, roll of the back, as if to reload the coil. HE'S A GUN.
J.Brown also tackled him after the ball had gone out of play in the pocket, and The Kid just walked out of it, he has this super solid core and low centre of gravity. Jonno must have been thinking, "Why am I lying on the ground holding this blokes hips with him staring down at me like I'm an idiot?"

Re: The Official TRENT COTCHIN Thread
The good thing about having Deledio, Blinga, Johnson, Bowden, White, Richo, Browny, Tuck etc is that they are all being rotated through wings and the middle, and we have a good spread of workers. I hope that means he wont have as much pressure on him as, say, Mark Coughlan did when the club (whoever it was) decided Knighters time was up.
