2008 NAB Rising Star

We have 11 players eligible for the award this year.

Below are their odds from sportsbet

$8.00
Trent Cotchin

$26.00
Alex Rance
Daniel Connors

$41.00
Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls
Jack Riewoldt

$67.00
Travis Casserly
Clayton Collard
Angus Graham

$81.00
Andrew Collins

$251.00
Dean Putt
David Gourdis has No Price

Will be intersting to see how they go and if any of them even play?!

"ofcourse they will Lisa"
"okay Gracie thanks"

Here are the top 20 prospects according to sportsbet

$4.00
Tom Hawkins - Geelong

$6.00
Ricky Petterd - Melbourne
Andrejs Everitt - Western Bulldogs

$8.00
Matthew Kreuzer - Carlton
Trent Cotchin - Richmond

$14.00
Matthew Leuenberger - Brisbane
Scott Gumbleton - Essendon
Lachlan Hansen - Kangaroos

$16.00
Cale Morton - Melbourne
Rhys Palmer - Fremantle

$17.00
Robert Gray - Port Adelaide

$21.00
Ben Reid - Collingwood

$26.00
Alex Rance - Richmond
Tom Collier - Brisbane Lions
Ryan Jackson - Carlton
Simon Buckley - Melbourne
Daniel Connors - Richmond
Brad Ebert - West Coast
Mitchell Clarke - Brisbane

Adelaide, Sydney and Hawthorn have no-one in the top 20.

Brisbane, Melbourne and Richmond have 3.

I can understand why Hawkins is favourite now without N.Ablett to compete for the same spot in the Geelong side. It's pretty good odds for Leuenberger; Rance's odds are quite good too and if Connors wasn't having such an interuppted pre-season i'd almost be tempted to have a flutter.

Re: 2008 NAB Rising Star

Of our players i'd take the hardest look at Connors and Riewoldt, but at those odds it's also hard to look past JON who is finally having a full pre-season.

Re: 2008 NAB Rising Star

Rance at $26 is a bit tempting.
Do the TAB take this sort of bet, my punting is usually only on the Cup.

Re: 2008 NAB Rising Star

I think Rance will play a lot less than people think this year.

A gut feeling Dalla, or based on what you've seen of him?

Like to see the first pre-season game then at the $26 make the decision. But the bookies watch carefully too and make rapid adjustments.

Re: 2008 NAB Rising Star

Funny you mention Rance- as on SEN they had your 08 predictions- and one was who would win the NAB Rising Star and Mark Doran said he thinks Alex Rance and Andrew Jarman said yep the kid is star and they both couldnt believe he slipped so far!!

Oooh tingles, love hearing that sort of positive comment especially from outsiders. Still mixed messages with what Dalla had to say.
Thou betting is about hunches and getting on before the odds are slashed!

possibly dalla, you may be right.

Looking at the last 6 winners

Selwood 18 games - 19.2 disposals
Pearce 22 games - 19.6
Deledio 22 games - 15.3
Rivers 21 games - 11.8
Mitchell 21 games - 17.8
Riewoldt 22 games - 14.5

who from our list is going to play at least 18 games if not all 22?

"yes Gracie, all of them I know"

With Connors interrupted pre-season it would have to pretty much knock him out of the running, don't you think?

Will Rance be good enough to keep Moore or McGuane out of the side for almost the entire season?

Will Cotchin come in early in the season and stay there?

Will Jon play atleast 18 games after only playing 7 in 2 years?

aren't they interesting questions

They sure are interesting questions to be answered all positively fingers crossed.

Thursfield 190cm 76kg 22gms
McGuane 191cm 76kg 16gms
Moore 190cm 86kg 24gms
Rance 193cm 88kg ytp

This kid is taller, heavier and as fast? He doesn't have the games under his belt but going by his size he will be handy against the opposition power forwards.
I don't see him as keeping them out of the side, but more melding with these guys to form the defensive unit.

Re: 2008 NAB Rising Star

Connors would be my bet, I think $26 factors pre-season issues - with a flying pre-season I'd have him as value around $15
