Re: Cricket 09/10
Are Australia that good, or our opposition that bad?
The Worst Indies were terrible last night!

Re: Cricket 09/10
I see there was a big difference in the size of the crowds for the T20 and the ODI this past weekend.
Friday night saw 60K while yesterday's game drew 24.5k - less than half its opponent's attendance.
The T20 match also had to compete with an A- League game yet still managed to top the traditional blockbuster game of Boxing Day Test at the G, whereas ODI had no other major sport competing against it.
Is it a case of Friday (with the whole weekend ahead) being more popular than Sunday night with work and school the next day?
Is Windies seen as not a big challenge to the all-conquering Aussies?
Be interesting to see next Friday's ODI attendance figures at the G with AFL scheduling a NAB Cup game between the Skunks and the Aints at the Dome.

Close, but try Friday week - it's 19th Feb.
I think it will do poorly, specially with the pies playing NAB Cup, and given it's the last ODI we could be at 3-1 and won the series so it would be a dead rubber. yawn!
I think Windies will fight back in Adelaide and make a contest of it. I refuse to believe Gayle and the others could perform so badly with the bat on a consistent basis.
Incidently I noted yesterday that the Windies had a bad umpire call go their way TWICE yesterday - First Haddin judged out off a ball he never connected with, and the Windies player given not out when the ball had hit his glove.
And they still did so badly!

Re: Cricket 09/10
Friday week is it, Rich? OK, I only skimmed the article, couldn't even be bothered copying it.
All cricketed out just now. Footy is getting too close.

Re: Cricket 09/10
I'm actually surprised they're holding a 2nd ODI, and the last of the series, at the 'G while putting a T20 in Hobart. Why not put the ODI down in tassie, and bring the T20 to the 'G? We know they get the crowds at the 'G and the T20 would do much better.
Guess they live and learn for next year and beyond.

Re: Cricket 09/10
We don't know when They drew up the time table, Rich.
Take your point though, They should be flexible enough to alter things around when there's a pattern of attendance showing what is rating higher at the moment.

I'm guessing that they schedule it the year before as the Ashes fixtures and the entire Australian Cricket summer fixture for next season has already been released.

Re: Cricket 09/10
Good point Rich - a T20 can only draw about 15G in Hobart but would probably get 15G for the ODI anyway...still, will be good for Tassie cricket lovers to see the T20 at Bellerive. Is a good ground for it - short square boundaries, spectators close to action, new floodlights.

Re: Cricket 09/10
I reckon the easy answer is to have 20-20 double headers instead of a 50-50 game. Load up the intensity. Have extended squads. Heck - maybe even make it a 2-innings game but with 20-20 rules. Plus it would be fairer - both sides having a hit in daylight and night-time.
Except for the history and records, (and I guess the world cup), who really gives a rats' about 50-50 cricket?

Re: Cricket 09/10
They need a ladder for world wide results so the matches aren't so meaningless.
